Harlem Academy

Harlem Academy is an academically rigorous, independent school for children whose aptitude for success in higher education might otherwise go unrealized.

Harlem Academy is an academically rigorous, independent school for children of all faiths and economic means. Founded in 2004 with 12 first grade families, the program now educates 58 students in first, second, third grades, and fourth grades. Fifth grade will be added for September 2008 and the school will eventually grow to serve 230 students through the eighth grade.

Harlem Academy is an independent school with a public mission. Families pay tuition set on a sliding scale so that the school is affordable to all.

Parents are required to participate in the school as active partners - supporting their child's academic growth, serving on committees, and volunteering time.

The educational program was developed in partnership with local parents, teachers, and professors from Teachers College. Smaller classes, longer academic blocks, and an extended school day are all essential components to the Harlem Academy model. We believe in working hard and working together toward the balanced growth of mind, body, and spirit. Ultimately, our goal is the preparation of students for success at the top secondary schools and universities.

Interested families should attend an information session at our school site on 111th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues, to learn more about whether Harlem Academy is the right school for your child.
