History of UrbanAreas.net

Our mission is to assist people in the urban areas of New York City (in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, Queens, etc) by providing them with available resources and tools that they can use to improve their life and/or the lives of others. UrbanAreas.net is the result of the combination of two community websites: Morrisania.com and HarlemOnline.com. Below are snapshot images and a brief history of both sites.


Morrisania.com went live on the Internet in September of 2001. The website started out as a small website for the neighborhood of Morrisania - located in the Bronx, NY. However, in the fall of 2008 the website's resources was immensely updated and the site was changed into a community website for the borough of the Bronx.

HarlemOnline.com, the neighborhood website for Harlem - located in Manhattan, NY - went live on the Internet in April of 2004. More or less, the website was a duplicate of Morrisania.com, except the resources on the HarlemOnline.com site were geared towards the Harlem community.


URBANAREAS.NET - In an effort to better reflect the growing resources and features that both website's provided, and to eliminate the duplication of website maintenance, Morrisania.com and HarlemOnline.com were merged, and the new website was titled "UrbanAreas.net". The UrbanAreas.net website went live on the Internet on October 4, 2009.

The website provides a number of useful, free services to the website's visitors and members. Morrisania.com, HarlemOnline.com and UrbanAreas.net were founded by Keith Canady. Click here to forward us your comments, questions, etc. For more information about this website click here.
