The History Of Claremont Day (Bronx, New York City)

The small Claremont Village area of the Bronx was once part of the Morris family estate and was founded in 1679. The area was mainly farmland. What was then Claremont is now part of the Morrisania neighborhood in the Bronx.

Claremont Day - a day of reunion of friends and family - has been celebrated by the residents of Claremont Village (Morrisania) since 1963. Historically, Claremont Day was celebrated annually on the second week of June. Residents of all ages got together and enjoyed themselves with a parade, music, games, and bar-b-que.

Due to misbehavior of a few individuals, the Claremont Day celebration was cancelled in 2008. However, the memories live on!
